Can I make an appointment? Just walk in? Request a certain artist? Yes, yes, and yes. It's best to call ahead and reserve an appointment. GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU CALL FIRST. We have several tattoo artists and we try to accommodate walk -ins. We require a deposit for an appointment. It goes toward the cost of your tattoo if you show up. This deposit is not refundable and not transferable, so if you cancel or don't show up, we keep it.
How old do I have to be to get a tattoo? You must be at least 16 years old to get a tattoo or piercing in our studio. If you are under the age of 18, we require matching IDs (last name and address) from both minor and parent/legal guardian. If the IDs do not match, you must obtain a notarized consent from our studio. The parent must also be with you for the duration of your body modification.
How much does a tattoo cost? Our minimum is $80. We will quote each tattoo piece individually. As far as sleeve work (arm or leg), we will price accordingly based on our $125 per hour rate. Rework or cover-up work is $150 per hour. You are buying a service, which includes your artists' time, experience, and talent.
Can you fix my old tattoo? It depends on the quality and condition of the old tattoo. The general rule is "darkest color wins. It's best that the artists see your existing tattoo, and you brainstorm together to determine what is possible. Again, this rate is $150 per hour.
Where on my body should I put the tattoo? Are there any areas of the body that you won't or can't tattoo? It's very important that the design you choose looks good on your body and fits the space well. Take into account if you want to be able to see it easily (then choose the front of your body, not the back) and if you need to cover your art for any reason (some employers are not keen on body art). We will generally not tattoo the soles of your feet, or the inside of your hands, or some ridiculous area like between your toes. These areas will not hold ink for long.
Can I bring in my own artwork/ideas? What if I don't know exactly what I want? Certainly, bring in your ideas and do your homework. Put some thought into it. A tattoo is a very personal thing, so keep in mind what you like, and what you want to look at for a very long time. Bring in photos of kids, family members or pets for a portrait or memorial tattoo. Into butterflies? Skulls, Turtles? Fast cars? Music? Bring in a picture, poster, card, or your favorite trinket and we'll work with it.
Do you do body piercing? Sell any body jewelry? Yes, we have two body piercers on staff. We do not pierce anything below the waist. We have a nice selection of body and gemstone jewelry as well as other cool stuff.
Does it hurt? Do certain areas of the body hurt worse than others? Basically, it depends on your individual pain tolerance. If you passed out in the dentist's chair, you might have the same reaction in ours. And yes, some areas of the body will hurt worse when tattooed or pierced, but there's no written rule. We've got stories of "criers" and "sleepers." The formula to remember: squirm/cry/pass out = longer tattoo = more money.
Will you draw a design for me? Yes we will. And it helps if you do your homework and bring something in to help us with your idea. There may be a drawing fee. Come in and brainstorm with us.
How safe is it? We pride ourselves in partaking in the most stringent standards in the tattoo profession. We use single-use and disposable everything (needles, ink cups, etc.) We use an autoclave (just like dentists) to sterilize the tattoo and piercing equipment. The autoclave is tested regularly, to ensure that it's working properly. Our artists wear disposable latex (please tell us if you have an allergy, we have latex-free as well.) Our philosophy is that we are protecting ourselves from you, and you from ourselves. We keep our studio very clean and are proud of it.
Do you offer Gift Certificates? Yes, we do offer Gift Certificates, and for any dollar amount you request. These make great gifts for Christmas, birthdays, Father's Day, etc. They can be used for any service or merchandise in the store, and usually expire within about six months.
Do you do cosmetic tattooing? Yes. Matt is a graduate of a training held in Portland, Oregon in July of 2002 by Face and Body Professionals. He has since done scores of eyeliner, eyebrows and lipstick. Matt is the only artist in our studio who will do the cosmetic tattooing. (Please see the photos on the Matt's portfolio page). Eyeliner and Eyebrows are $400, which includes consultation prior to the procedure and any touch-ups afterwards if necessary. Adding more color (that is not considered touch-up work) will carry and additional fee of $100. And, no, it's not as painful as you might imagine, since numbing cream is used in the process. Stop in to see photos and get more information.
